Luck or Skill…The Poker Gods Will Decide
The debate between whether poker is a game of skill or luck is highly disputed. Majority of the people who play poker know exactly that it requires skills more than the luck. Luck is defined as an entity that keeps bringing back the fish. There are also people who have firm faiths in Poker Gods and are of the view, that if you use your cards in the right manner, the poker Gods are sure to smile down on your fate in the game.
Poker for many people has been the reason for the challenges faced by poker players. Even in my case, my addiction to poker has ended me up into various ultimatums form my better half. Its wasn’t the gambling habit of mine which she disliked, it was the losing tendency of mine which she hated.
After getting the pay I figured that I was running short for about $300. Since the end of the month was coming closer, and my money supply was suffocating, I felt the urge to do something about it. I opted not to call my parents for the cash so I decided to bring my poker skills under use and generate much needed cash.
Hence I decided to start with a no limit $100 buy in tournament. Although I consider myself to be cool and composed during the
stress times in between the games but since it is a human psyche that desperate times need proactive measures. Once out of the job the best job pays off to about $10/hour, hence you need to take some extreme measures to make both ends meet.
The last discussion we had when I left home was that if I was so stupid to gamble on whatever we were left with and put that on stake. She said to breakup with me if I went to gamble and she’d be gone before id be back. Thinking it to be useless to explain my side of the story to her and to tell her that whatever I was doing was for both of us, I headed out of the home and towards my destination.
Luckily the players on my table were somewhat tycoons with little poker knowledge and money to be spent and spilled like water. I using my skills and knowledge, I managed to make my way through to the final table. Only the top 5 players were liable to be paid. I decided to wait and let the short stacks first battle out as I had an average stack of chips. My strategy worked and Poker God smiled over my fate.i got knocked out on the 5th place. I didn’t wanted to complain or anything as I already had won about $800, which was enough for me to cover the rent and bills for the month.
When I got back home, my materialistic better half was waiting for me with her bags packed. Her leave was mostly dependent on how badly I had lost. When I told her with a smile that I won $800, she ran up to me hugged me, and told me about the different plans which can be funded by my $800 win. Things on top of the list were nails redo and new cloths.
I counted out the money I would require to pay of my liabilities, and walking out the door I told my girlfriend that I would modify my truck with the extra money that I’ve won. If you can care less for things I do for “US”, so could I.
